Kavoris Fruster is the musical talent and producer responsible for Gloria Williams‘ recently released UnMute Me (Salisha-Lynn). From starting his journey as a child, Mr. Fruster’s many years of experience within various aspects of music found him in the best position to handle all parts of production on the UnMute Me album.
Kavoris Fruster was one of those little boys who would “play drums on everything–pots and pans!” As he grew older, Kavoris became a member of his school’s band, and he would also play at the church he attended as a child. His future within music was solidified during his middle-school years when his mother questioned him regarding his career goals. Being the talented football star that he was, it was obvious to Kavoris that he wanted to continue his path with football. His mother pressed further–She encouraged him to consider music production as a option since that was how he spent much of his spare time when he wasn’t consumed with football. And so his journey began.
There was no direct musical influence within his immediate environment when he first started, yet Kavoris now finds himself surrounded by talented people with varying degrees of skill. As musical director for his church, Grace Fellowship Worship Center, it would be hard for him not to! He leads on the keyboard and is skilled on the tuba, trombone, and of course, on drums (no more pots and pans!). He has a little familiarity with the bass guitar and has acquired an acoustic guitar, which he has been practicing on more recently. Kavoris even played the horn while in college but sticks primarily to piano “because that’s where the money is.”
When asked if his musical journey has been fulfilling, Kavoris responded with a quick, “Absolutely!”. For him, music serves as a outlet that opens many doors for him, and it has created the foundation for many great relationships. Kavoris says that music compliments his personality. Even though Mr. Fruster says that he is not outgoing and has no desires to be “famous,” music has afforded him the opportunity to travel and even helped him to secure what he calls, “The best job in the world!” Kavoris readily admits that music has kept him out of trouble that he might have otherwise found himself in during his younger years. It also kept him in church–a positive influence it is because church is exactly where Kavoris found his close friend, the lovely Gloria Williams. Their familial relationship has developed into a business relationship in which they created a fantastic album, UnMute Me. Mr. Fruster is pleased that he was able to apply many of the skills he has learned throughout the years within the album’s production.
The future for Kavoris Fruster is great! He believes that there is no final destination when you’re trying to be at the center of kingdom purpose–“There Are NO Limits!” This is the framework where he plans to propel the music ministry to fulfill their desired goals.
Going back to school may also be an option for Mr. Fruster as he has been researching opportunities to increase his technical knowledge within the field of music. Since Kavoris is a fan of sight-seeing, Florida would be the destination–he loves the trees!
Kavoris encourages all up-and-coming musicians to study their craft and to be versatile with various genres of music because no musician knows the genre where he or she might find their “big break”. By limiting genres, musicians are limiting their opportunity to control exactly how they navigate the industry. Mr. Fruster urges that by knowing the foundations of a wide spectrum of music, a musician would be better positioned to crossover to a desired genre if they find their initial opportunity in another. He also points out that while it is nice for a musician to be able to pick up any instrument and play, it is wise for a musician to know the foundations of their craft and be able to read sheet music. Most importantly, Kavoris advises that all musicians who seek to take-up music full-time solely for the money should first… “Find something else to do [because]…”
Music is a journey.
